One of the reasons why I personally put up Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M.) is the experience with my daughter asking me to explain to her how I derived the answer to problem solving assignments. I know you can relate to this because we would usually use algebra in solving word problems. How the heck will we be able to explain algebra to a grade 4 student?
We would usually end the night fighting for how the answer was arrived at. Bottomline, there are no modelling, the solution was algebraic (finding X) and the answer. Do we have the same story?
Now watch the video link. I'm pretty sure that we all have the same experience with Singapore Math. And no matter how I study it, I can't relate.
After attending a couple of seminars, watching videos, engaging with my Singapore Math Trainers, and solving problems the Singapore Math way, I realized that it really helps the kids visualize, analyze and understand the problem better, in a way that they could explain how they were able to arrive at the answer.
Honestly, my daughter is better than I am in Math. I'm sure, you'll be amazed on how your kids face problem solving the Singapore Math way. In case your kids are struggling, the earlier you enroll them in S.A.M., the better their Singapore Math Foundation will be strengthened.
